Great interest in BIM at iTSHOWCASE – London

This week AceCad Software were invited to present in London at iTSHOWCASE a 30 minute seminar slot on BIM including the UK Government’s strategy to implement plans for the use of Building Information Modeling.

On a cold and rainy day in late November our hopes for a decent turnout to a lunchtime seminar were perhaps a little optimistic………

How surprised we were, with one hundred seats out and people standing at the back, interest was great indeed!

It seems that the UK construction sector is starting to wake up to the Government’s four year strategy for BIM implementation and seeking to understand how it will change the dynamics and behaviours of the construction supply chain. And, in particular searching for answers for how BIM could unlock new, more efficient and collaborative ways of working.

As a business we were delighted to participate and on our exhibition stand discuss with many visitors the BIM solutions that we offer to deliver collaboration and efficient workflows into construction.

AceCad interviewed by BIM Journal

AceCad was delighted to be recently interviewed by BIM Journal; the leading online newsletter delivering impartial and authoritative information relevant to Building Information Modeling (BIM) industry professionals.

Aimed at everyone involved in the construction process – Developers, Project Managers, Engineers & Contractors, and with over 100,000 readers worldwide, the monthly BIM Journal editions reveal promising trends and the latest development projects from around the world.

Speaking to BIM Journal, Mr Brotherton, the Managing Director of AceCad Software commented; ‘We believe that the construction industry needs to deliver practical benefits into construction projects attainable by the implementation of BIM. Although BIM has resulted in benefits and advantages in many projects, we at AceCad believe that the data associated with BIM is still yet to be fully exploited beyond the virtual model and into the real world’.

When asked by BIM Journal to summarize what BIMProject, AceCad’s latest product for managing BIM data does, Mr Brotherton commented,BIMProject allows users to extract BIM model data, apply it efficiently in the real world and track it, whilst updating the model, to help reduce RFI/variation costs which plague the industry’.

BIM Journal were interested in the development resource associated with BIMProject. Speaking on this, Mr Brotherton added ‘AceCad Software was certainly the leading company in bringing together the benefits found in manufacturing into the structural construction sector. We are now working to bring similar benefits into wider construction projects by the integration of model and data management through distinct and controlled processes that ensure information is integrated with knowledge to bring about powerful decisions – true BIM’.

BIMProject is in the final stages of development with an impending release planned, while the integrated BIMReview model collaboration tool, available from www.bim-review.com, was released in late summer. Due to high interest in the BIMProject product we have pilot projects running with beta versions. We already have a wide range of BIMReview users and feedback to date is extremely encouraging. A comment from one such pilot project user was ‘this is a dream come true!’.

AceCad’s products go down a storm!

Moving towards the end of a busy exhibition season, AceCad is pleased to report successful participation at several international events over the last two months.

Most recently at FABTECH in Las Vegas, USA, AceCad received an overwhelming response from visitors with our new Essentials product for fabricators particularly going down a storm. Similarly, record attendances were reported at our booth at The Big 5 exhibition held in Dubai, UAE. Considerable numbers of enquiries have been registered from across the Middle East region for StruM.I.S – our steel management system and BIMReview – our model review and visualisation tool.

Last month, partner collaborations with Tekla and SDS/2 at their user meetings brought notable interest in both our StruM.I.S and Essentials products for steel fabrication. Whilst our sponsorship at the BIM Summit event in Qatar generated considerable attention and interest in BIMReview, and BIMProject, our data management solution for BIM based projects.

AceCad is delighted that these events have provided us with the opportunity to see many of our existing clients and have also enabled us to meet and develop relationships with additional new prestigious clients.

So you’ve got your 3D or BIM model… What comes next?

The main issue with interdepartmental and supply chain collaboration, is often the flow of information from one place to another. This is one of the areas where BIMProject comes into play, with its very simple workflow system doing all of the heavy lifting (figuratively speaking!) Processing 3D or BIM model data from design through the tendering, procurement and QS cycles to the construction site.

All of the information attributed to the models, and the models themselves, can be imported into BIMProject. Throughout the supply cycle the information is compounded and enriched and this data, along with all the documents involved, is then added to the system under controlled change management; through integrated workflows for the benefit of everyone involved in the entire construction project.

BIMProject and BIMReview also share an excellent and unique aspect; complete visual traceability in sync with the data held within.

‘Contractors are able to track the content from their suppliers through to the construction site in real time, utilising the BIM model in this environment, which we feel is a first.’

Paul Daynes, AceCad’s BIM Solutions Business Manager

BIM is the word…

BIM or Building Information Modelling to those who aren’t too acronym savvy, is a process involving the coordination of all the digital information surrounding a project throughout the entire lifecycle; from initial 3D render through to project completion and beyond.

BIM is the way forward, it’s the way to gain better results in a faster time and BIM is now.

AceCad Software has the answer to all of your BIM needs and with a portfolio of software under our belt we’re sinking our teeth right into the heart of BIM and what it does. AECMagazine’s own Greg Corke, when reviewing our BIMProject software, says:

‘The BIM model has a huge role to play throughout, providing a 3D context for the vast database of information that sits behind it. It can give visual feedback on the status of individual procurement and tracking different phases… rather than having to interpret the entries in a database or spreadsheet.’

’BIMProject is a brand new information management tool that uses Building Information Modelling (BIM) models to help manage and control procurement workflows all the way to construction. Even if a co-ordinated BIM model is used during design, once a project reaches the tendering and procurement stage, the BIM model is often discarded’ comments Greg Corke.

He continues, ’managing the vast amount of information that flows between principal contractor and sub contractors in the tendering, procurement and delivery stages can cause a major headache. While there are tools that touch parts of the tender to construction workflow, BIMProject is the only tool we can think of that looks to connect everything up to a single BIM model. It is certainly an exciting development

BIM allows project coordination through departments for the entire project, offering managing and operational control through digitally testing the design of the building and ensuring increased accuracy in costs, eliminating errors, reducing risk and tracking every detail of the project throughout the construction lifecycle.
