STRUMIS Support

The STRUMIS support team have been working on improvements throughout their department in order to better serve our customers. So far they have introduced a new centralised Support system and FAQ system.

Previous posts have covered how to access the FAQ system but in case you missed it, the details are in this news article. So far, the feedback has been good and customers have been seeing the benefits of it. The new system is also receiving positive feedback both outside and inside of the STRUMIS building.

In addition to this, we are looking to expand our UK technical team. As with any expanding customer base, the requirements and balance of the team changes over time.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with industry and IT experience who is ready to work in the UK. If you are interested in the UK based role please send your CV to sales@strumis.com

BIMEstimating-STRUMEDIA-FeaturedImage

BIM Estimating

For over 10 years STRUMIS customers have been reaping the benefits of being able to create estimates in seconds by importing 3D models into STRUMIS from third party modelling software solutions such as; Tekla, STRUCAD, Advance Steel and many more.

However more recently this ground breaking functionality has been enhanced in order to provide STRUMIS customers with an incredibly streamlined and efficient approach to model based estimating. This is achieved by by-passing the need to create 3D models in the third party modelling software solutions by importing them directly from design software solutions such as Revit Structures.

Importing directly from a Revit model removes the need for the detailing team to create a 3D model in a modelling software solution. This is in order to not only save you time but it also ensures 100% accuracy in importing the entire Revit design model material; while also alerting you to any unusual material that is detected during the import.

Companies such as Robinson Structures and Mifflin Construction have adopted this latest technology to streamline and improve accuracy on their day-today estimating.

Ashley Robinson – Operations Director for Robinson Structures ltd states

“We have extended our use of STRUMIS through importing 3D models either from our in-house Tekla detailing team or for added efficiencies we can import direct from the Revit model when available saving even more time producing our estimates.”

Steve Goode – Project Manager for Mifflin Construction Ltd adds

“The more Revit models we can obtain at the point of tender the better for us as this allows a rapid and accurate take-off direct from the engineers model to be completed within a matter of minutes. This allows more time to concentrate upon the vital role of the estimator to ensure material and labour prices are competitive to ensure our best win ratio.”

Further to the significant speed improvements STRUMIS provides, BIMReview (which is included with STRUMIS) allows the estimating team to provide a movie file of the finished project over-laid on google maps if required or alternatively you can use the standard scenes included with BIMReview.

This movie file accompanying the tender submission can accentuate the win probability and also demonstrate your company is adopting the very latest technology to support the steel construction industry.

Grand Opening of New Production Plant in Přerov

Pontus Kallén, acting CEO of Astron Buildings, cut the ribbon of the new production line, together with Gordon Pringle, Director of the Přerov site, and Vaclav Šíma, Plant Manager.

The new investment allows Astron to increase the capacity of multi-storey building production. Brand new machines from European leader Voortman process raw materials with great speed and precision. Using STRUMIS as the new software engineering program, we are able perform cutting and drilling with significant time saving. As a result, we are now able to produce multi-storey buildings faster and in very high quality.

For additional tasks, new welding machines and cranes have been bought, as well as a bending press. A second bending press will be installed later this year. The new equipment will mainly serve to fulfill the increasing demand for Multi-storey Car Parks across the whole of Europe.

Fisher Cycle Challenge

This week started with us receiving a lovely thank you from our much valued customer Severfield NI, who have completed their fifth annual fisher cycling challenge and in doing so raised an amazing £25,000 for charity.

Once again Severfield urged people to get on their bikes, get fit and help raise some much needed funds for charity. On Saturday the 9th of July cyclists embarked on a journey around Fermanagh on either a 17, 45 or 75 mile leisure cycle, starting and finishing at Severfield (NI) in Ballinamallard.

As a result of the challenge £25,000 was raised for charities such as Action Mental Health, Edges Earlier Intervention, RNLI and the Severfield Foundation.

UK Steel Industry-STRUMEDIA-FeaturedImage

UK Steel Industry In Growth

Following the crisis of prices in the international market falling coupled with increased costs at home the UK steel industry is now set to see a time of growth and a general positive outlook as these issues subside.

The global abundance of steel production seen in recent years continues, however this is beginning to ease due to several key factors which all lead to a positive future for UK steel.

  • The global economy is growing
  • China have cut production by closing inefficient mills

According to the head of the mission of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union, China has already cut steel capacity by over 115 million tons since 2016 and eliminated an additional 140 million tons of substandard steel capacity.

UK steel companies have become more competitive with the global industry, in part due to the lower sterling exchange rate following the EU referendum. Also UK steel producers are now much leaner, having cut costs in recent years.

A recent government report identified “enormous potential” for the UK steel industry if it can meet growing domestic demand. The study predicts that UK demand for steel is set to rise to 11m tonnes a year by 2030, presenting the industry with a £3.8bn a year growth opportunity.

The above is compounded by the fact that the HM Government released Construction 2025 in 2013 which outlines the need to lower construction costs by 33% and reduce project completion time by 50%. It is heavily suggested that this can be achieved through the usage of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and MRP (Material Resource Planning) software solutions. This is because of the time and cost savings they can provide via a multitude of features.

For example STRUMIS material nesting can create a 2% saving on steel expenditure, or more. A company fabricating 50 tonnes of steel per week could have a saving of £36,400 each year.

All of the above would suggest that now is the time to invest in more efficient and effective methods of working in order to benefit from the predicted market growth.
